My name is Brian Hyun Dokko and I'm a Korean-American, the second child to immigrant parents from South Korea, whom I love and am very proud of. I'm originally from Northern California (hence the above picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, taken in 2006), born in Oakland on April 19, 1979, and I grew up in the East Bay Area in San Lorenzo, a tiny city near Hayward and San Leandro. At 15, I moved with my family to Southern California, going to high school at South High in Torrance. Graduating there in 1997, I moved to back to Northern California (Berkeley, CA), attending Diablo Valley College with the intent to transfer to UC Berkeley, but instead accepted transfer admission to UCLA in the fall of 1999.
I graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in the Spring of 2002 with both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and a California teaching credential, and I accepted my first teaching position at Century High School in Santa Ana. I taught there for one year, and then accepted the position at Long Beach Poly High School, where I'm now in my sixth year as the Director of Choral Activities. I'm concurrently a second-year graduate student in Choral Conducting at Long Beach State, with an MM in Music expected in Spring of 2010.
I have one older sister and two nephews, Jeremy (April 10, 2002) and Justin (July 7, 2006). Jeremy has autism; learn more about autism here. He is by far the cutest boy in the entire world. Yes, even cuter than your boy. :) You can see more of both nephews scattered about my Gallery. My parents still live in Torrance, and play more golf than you can imagine.
I also enjoy many hobbies and activities, including music, art & architecture, food / cooking / entertaining guests, photography, travel, sports, the outdoors, the indoors, shopping, trivia & useless information (is that redundant?), and lounging around. I was married to my beautiful wife Vanessa on November 15, 2008.
Thanks for visiting me today, and feel free to look around and leave me any comments on my blog or in the guest book!

The original purpose of bdokko.com was to serve as my online portfolio as I was searching for a teaching position, but since I'm no longer on the job market, this will now be my place to blog and post pictures.
